Step 1:
Applying Aftercare Lotion
Our hair transplant aftercare lotion helps regenerate skin cells, moisturise the scalp, and soften scabs during the healing process. For best results, gently apply the lotion to both the donor and recipient areas as part of your daily post-transplant care routine.
Step 2:
Applying Medical Shampoo
Use a special medical shampoo daily for the first 14 days after your hair transplant to support healing and protect your new grafts. After applying the aftercare lotion, gently wash your scalp with your fingertips and the shampoo provided by the clinic. Always move in the direction of the transplanted grafts and avoid rubbing or applying pressure to ensure a smooth recovery.
Step 3:
Rinsing
Rinse your scalp with lukewarm water and a gentle stream after your hair transplant to protect the delicate grafts. Avoid using hot water or high-pressure showers, as these can disrupt healing and damage the implanted follicles. Using the correct water temperature and flow ensures safe and effective post-transplant hair care.
Step 4:
Drying
After your hair transplant, allow your hair to dry naturally to protect the grafts and support healing. Skip towels and hair dryers for the first 2 weeks, as rubbing or heat can damage the transplanted area and slow recovery. Stick to gentle, air drying for safe and effective post-transplant aftercare.
Proper washing is a vital part of your hair transplant aftercare. Follow this day-by-day routine to ensure safe healing and protect your grafts.
Day 1:
A nurse at the DrT Hair Clinic will perform your first hair wash the day after your surgery.
Day 2:
Skip washing your hair today. Let your scalp rest and continue healing.
Day 3:
No washing is required on Day 3 either. Avoid disturbing the transplanted area.
Gently remove your bandages.
Apply the aftercare lotion to the transplanted area and let it sit for 30 minutes on Day 4.
Each following day, increase the application time by 5 minutes (e.g., Day 5: 35 minutes, Day 6: 40 minutes, and so on).
Wash your scalp using the medical shampoo. Tap gently with your fingertips—do not rub—across both the transplanted and donor areas.
Rinse with lukewarm water.
Allow your hair to air-dry naturally. Do not use a hairdryer or towel.
Gently massage the aftercare lotion into the transplanted area using small circular motions.
Leave the lotion on for 2 hours.
Rinse thoroughly and shampoo both the donor and recipient areas as directed.
Let your hair dry naturally.
By Day 14, all dry scabs should have fallen off naturally, revealing a clean, healing scalp.
Use only the products provided by your clinic.
Avoid rubbing, scratching, or applying pressure to the scalp.
Stick closely to the timeline to promote proper graft healing.
For the first 3 nights, try to sleep with your head elevated using a high pillow or multiple pillows. Keeping your head raised will help reduce swelling and support recovery. You can sleep on your back or sides, but avoid lying face down. Also, make sure the transplanted area doesn’t come into contact with your pillow.
Swelling is a common and minor side effect following hair transplant surgery. Although painless, it may start on your forehead and extend around the eyes. To reduce swelling, wear the black bandage we provide for 4 hours each day during the first 2 days.
It’s normal for your transplanted hair to shed within the first 2–4 weeks. This process happens because the new hair follicles are adjusting to reduced oxygen levels in their new location. Although the transplanted hairs shed, the follicles remain healthy underneath the skin.
Around weeks 12 to 14, the grafts begin producing new hair. This is a natural part of the hair transplant recovery timeline.
Hair growth after a transplant happens gradually. New hairs typically start forming within 2–3 months after the initial shedding. While results take time, you’ll begin to see visible improvement by the 6-month mark. Full hair growth usually develops between 12 and 15 months post-procedure.
Proper care after your hair transplant is crucial for healthy graft growth and long-term results. Follow these guidelines to support your recovery and protect your new hair.
You can gently comb your new hair, but always brush lightly to prevent any damage to the transplanted grafts.
Stop smoking and avoid alcohol for at least 7 days after your hair transplant to support proper healing.
Pause all sports and physical activities like running, trekking, cycling, or golf for at least 2 weeks.
Avoid heavy lifting and intense workouts for 3 weeks to prevent strain on the scalp.
Skip saunas, Turkish baths, and solariums for 6 months to protect your grafts from excessive heat and moisture.
Moderate sun exposure is fine, but don’t sunbathe or expose your scalp to extreme sunlight for 3 months. Always wear a cap outdoors to shield your scalp.
Wait at least 1 month before swimming in pools or the sea, as chlorine and saltwater can irritate the scalp.
Delay using chemical treatments like hair dye. You can apply them to the donor area after 2 months and to the transplanted area after 6 months.
